Home sweet home - but not for long

The sad thing about going on holiday is that no matter how amazing it was and how much fun you’ve had, you have to return home.

It’s already been a week since I returned. My suitcases are (all but) unpacked, my tan is starting to fade and I’m back into the full swing of things at the office and starting to feel like I never even went away.

Nevertheless I have this weekend in Guernsey to look forward to. My niece is representing England in a table tennis tournament and being the ever supportive aunty (and not one to give up the opportunity to jump on a plane) I thought I’d go along and cheer her on.

The truth is I don’t find table tennis, or any other sport for that matter, interesting enough to spend an entire weekend watching. So, after a few hours of ‘Go Abs, go!’ (are you allowed to cheer at table tennis matches?) I shall find myself out and about exploring the wonderful Channel Island of Guernsey. This time however, instead of doing copious amounts of research before hand, I shall just turn up and see what the island has to offer. I’ll visit one of those little information points at the airport, see what recommendations my hotel might make and ask a few locals for suggestions. I have even resisted the temptation to hire a car. I shall explore the island by bus – and maybe the odd taxi.

My only concern is dogs. I imagine there might be several dogs, especially at the seaside. But I’m not going to dwell on that thought too much. If anyone has visited Guernsey and would like to recommend any must see points of interest, feel free to drop me a line.
