Mummy and Me! - Oct 2011

How do you get your mother all to yourself when she had 7 kids and 8 grandkids? You take her away on holiday. And that’s just what I did (Oct 2011). Mummy and me alone for 3 days in Tropea, Italy. We explored the beach.
We explored the town.
And just chilled as mother and daughter. It was wonderful!

When I said I was travelling somewhere every month this year, I had assumed it had to be mean jumping on a plane. But when my travel partner to Berlin procrastinated just a little to long, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to explore places right here in the UK I always wanted to but never got around to. Funny how I found the time to get to the likes of Australia and almost every country in Asia but never places like the Cotswolds and Lake District which have long been on my ‘must see at some point’ list. Not just a stopover for the sake of it

It would seem as though in my haste to experience all things Japanese that I completely overlooked South Korea as a destination within itself. If only I had allowed for a few more days it could have been a mini off the beaten track holiday with its mountains and rice paddies and unspoilt islands. Anyway, be that as it may, my flights are booked and paid for so I have 3 nights, 2 full days in Seoul. Initially it looked like loads of time but I’m sure it’s going to go all too quickly. 3 nights, 2 days I’ll probably start with one of those city ‘orientation’ type walks to get my bearings, although I’m not encouraged by the fact that most streets in Seoul don’t actually have a name. It gets better – the buildings have numbers but they don’t run consecutively, they were allocated in the order in which they were built. A Latvian Escape (Riga Jan 2025)

 So Riga. For a few years I’ve wanted to go and explore the famous Christmas markets in this city but it’s never worked out. What I mean is, I’ve never actually set aside the time to do it. So, straight on the back of my last three months of travel (Oct - Istanbul, Nov - New York, Dec - Caribbean cruise), I decided to grasp the opportunity and go for three nights. I wanted to start the year with a trip that: didn’t cost too much, allowed me to tick a new country off the map and I could comfortably explore in four days.  I booked flights and the hotel with BA - usually best as you get checked bags included. Not that I absolutely needed to check a bag, but hey, if it’s on offer, it saves pulling your case around the airport. The hotel only charged an extra £30 single supplement which was great.
